[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: Fa Mulan [Fa Ping]
Age: 18
Gender: Female (pretends to be Male)
Fandom: Mulan
Timeline: Right after the fight in the mountains with the Huns, before she is discovered.
History: Here
Character Personality: Mulan has grown up in a place and society that does not value women much, and has an incredibly narrow view of what the ideal and respectable woman is. That ideal is of someone who is beautiful, quiet, demure, a good housewife and mother, and completely submissive and lesser to all men.
Despite this and her incredibly traditional family, Mulan never found herself fitting into this role. She was a very absent-minded girl. A tomboy, intellect, creative, and all around unconventional person. She was an only child and so she was given a lot of attention, but in turn the family's future was placed upon her shoulders, a burden that was incredibly difficult for her to bear. This turned her into a person who is incredibly critical of herself. Even though she feels unaccepted and pressured by her family, she understands enough to know that they love her, and she loves them very much as well and wants nothing more than to bring them honour and make them happy--particularly her father. Instead of growing up thinking that her society was wrong for its treatment of women, she grew up feeling that there was something wrong with her and while it rarely outwardly shows, this has done great damage to her self-esteem, to a degree where it might almost be considered self-loathing. She's an awkward person all around, kind and patient but without much social grace and a poor conversationalist.
Beneath all these insecurities, however, lies a strong woman who is just waiting to blossom. Mulan is a fiercely determined individual, and once she sets her mind to something she does not give up. She works, works, and works often times pushing herself to the limits. She is a person with a great love for her family, country, and friends and would do most anything to protect them. When she does not brood over her worries and identity issues she can be a friendly albeit awkward and tries to get along with just about everyone. The opinions she has she holds strongly, and her moral compass is quite rigid. Ironically when it comes to etiquette and beliefs she can be a bit of a traditionalist, but she has an open mind and despite how harshly she criticizes herself, tends to be quite patient and understanding with others.
Mulan is a young girl and she grew up in a restrictive society, so she can be a little bit naive sometimes. Not as much as one would expect given that she was in the army for a long time and surrounded by men, but with the exception of three she mostly kept to herself for fear of finding out so some of that is still evident in her.
Character Abilities: Mulan is quite the versatile fighter. She started out as a weakling, but through intense training with other troops from the Captain Shang, she was able to become one the best warriors in his army. She is strong, quick, and skilled in martial arts, the bow, sword, and quarter staff. Even more important, however, is that Mulan is a very quick thinker. She knows how to think on her feet and it has saved her on more than one occasion.
Character Weaknesses: Most of Mulan's weaknesses are emotional ones, especially where self esteem is concerned. She sees herself as a failure as a woman, and she is not a man, so oftentimes she finds herself wondering just what she is and where she belongs which can get her very depressed at times.
It's also very hard for her to get very close to people. She has become convinced that she can only be respected as a man, but it's always in the back of her mind that she is deceiving people which always makes her feel a bit of guilt.
Unfortunately for her, when not actively thinking about it, Mulan can be rather clumsy and seems to have bouts of bad luckespecially without her lucky grasshopper. It has a tendency to get her into a lot of trouble and generally bring chaos wherever she may go.
[ MEISTER SECTION ]
Why your character should be a Meister: Mulan is a warrior. She may be a little insecure when it comes to who she is, but there is one thing she is confident of and that is of her abilities in the battlefield. She's trained with several weapons and in martial arts and has a cunning mind. She feels most alive when protecting her people and her family.
[ SOUL INFORMATION ]
Soul Description: shy, self-destructive, brave, loyal, strong, androgynous
Soul Appearance: FUCK YEA CHINA COLOURS
[ SAMPLES ]
First Person: This world, she is very strange. Very strange. I have since learned that it is quite similar to my world, may potentially even be my world, but I come from a time long since gone. To experience much change should be no surprise, but the things that have been created are simply...incomprehensible. This very device that I am using for example. It is meant to put me in contact with others, yes? That means there is no need for messengers. No need for messengers. From the bit I've seen so many things seem to have been replaced by machinery of some kind. It worries me a bit.
In trying times such as these, however, I suppose one much use all that they have at their disposal, and concerning as it may be, it is still fascinating.
Third Person: Mulan knew that she should be upset over what had happened as so many others around her seemed to be. It was only natural. Any sensible person would be angry at being ripped away from their home, and tossed into a world.
Somehow Mulan couldn't bring herself to feel quite the same way. Not entirely. She knew what would have happened if she had remained back home. The last thing that happened was that she had fainted, but she remembered clear as day that she had been severely injured. She had been told that BREW had probably been what healed it, since she was still in her armor. Had it not taken her, she probably would have been discovered, and in all likelihood killed.
The way she saw it, Shibusen had saved her life, and so it was only right that she do what she could to repay them.
Besides. The Huns were gone. China was now safe, as was her father. She hated that her family, Ling, Yao, Chien-Po and Mushu would probably be worried about her, but she would return one day. For now she was almost happy in a way to be able to help serve in another war and protect people, it gave her a sense of purpose--not only that but here she was receiving an education (albeit a strange one) and that was something she had longed for, for so long.
[ NOTES ] Mulan will indeed continue to masquerade as Ping while at SC. 8}
